Ello, well I'm allowed a dog for my birthday after 2 years of asking! :D

I'm either going for a cocker spaniel or a cavalier king charles spaniel, if anybody has had experience with either of these breeds or knows some good websites with information could you please tell me.

Also which breed would you recommend?
If I got a cocker spaniel it would be a show type not a working type.

Thanks
Joe

Cavalier king charles spaniel.

Cocker spaniels are Too Hyper active - But they obey there owners well.

I Have experaince With CKCS and my mate has 2 CS...

If you plan on getting these types of dogs.

CS - needs walking atleast twice a day.. And LOVES! Playing with a tennisball And they Love treats now and then...

CKCS - Mine loves to play with the ball... She would play with it till she dies ( No Honestly ).. Carrying on. they are loveable Social And listen to there masters alot. Easy to teach tricks to... Thougfh.. they wont protect owners if they need help. They'd rather just... Run off... appart from that they're a great dog. Though!!! Be careful! Theres a disease in them witch makes there brinas too big for there skull witch is killing off CKCS's so if you paln on getting one! Make sure its from a professional breeder... Not from a puppy farm

My late granddad had a CKCS called Revel. Now Revel lives with my step nan (Rose) but anyway, he's really sweet when I visit him (every few years because he lives up in Scotland). He does Sit, Paw, Treat, Kiss - which is really cute. He sits, you shake his paw, you give him a treat, he gives you a big lick across your chops.
I'd go for a Cavalier

Joe (my name too :D )

I would also rather opt for the CKCS.... I had a crossbred once and he was fantastic (and also beautiful).... The CS is very mistrusting to strangers & needs to be closed out when you have visitors.... (ask any vet... they have to be muzzled if the vet wants to handle them (without a family member around to hold or restrain the dog).

what about springer spaniels? i'm moving house soon and we are thinking about getting a springer, are they very differ from cs or kc?

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm going for a cavalier, my aunt has two pedigree champion bitches that have one many shows. I'm going to use the same breeder that she got hers from, I will either get a tri-colour or a bleinham. Cocker Spaniels are just too active and i've read that they don't get on well with other animals, whereas cavaliers are very friendly to cats, which helps because I have 3.

Tucan: Springers are very active and lively, nothing like a cavalier, if you want a dog that doesn't like long walks in the rain, lets you cuddle them constantly and are very loyal then I would go with a cavalier.

my bestie has a CKCS. shes called Poppy and is just a puppy now, but is really fun and adorable :hyper: . my best friend chose CKCS over the Bichon Frise, her only concern was that CKCS has certain heart problems and like many small dogs, patellar luxation or something like that. try http://www.cavaliers.co.uk/ for some info on Cavvies. dont know much on cockers but they need much more excersize than Cavs.

i've ALWAYS wanted a dog - so lucky you! :good:

If you want to look that is :p

If you scroll down you'll see one of her with green eyes o_O

oh my gosh good choice! The neighbors have one and I take care of him often. He's the sweetest thing I've ever met <3 very friendly! I don't think, actually I'm pretty positive, he has never bitten anyone in his life. He is very cute! and he doesn't have a strong odor like some other dogs do. Very cute floppy ears =)

Just be careful with a cavalier thay can have some pretty nasty genetic disorders including heart problems and syringomelia, where the skull is too small for the brain. If you get one from a breeder ask if the parents are certified as not being affected. If you think it's a bit OTT search You tube for a vid of a dog with syringomelia - heartbreaking.
Oh and they're prone to getting fat - my parents have one and he's like a little hippo - super cute and friendly though!
