Hi All

I've been after a couple of African Dwarf Frogs for quite sometime but I cant find them anywhere, so firstly does anyone know of any in the South East? Im in Kent but willing to travel within a certain distance.

I have 2 tanks, One 180L Jewel Vision and a 60L Elite tank 2 ft tank. Which tank would be more suitable, the small tank has a few mollies and baby bristlenose and the larger tank is a community tank.

I think i've read they need to be able to get to the surface easily, so maybe the 180l is too deep?

feeding is the main problem, in a big tank. but, otherwise, they do fine in any sized tank. they are, bad swimmers (in comparison to fish). but mine do fine in a 50ukg 4 foot tank that is 18 inches deep.

Oh right thanks, what do you feed yours on?

for african dwarfs, 18 inches is almost TOO deep....these frogs need to surface for air quite frequently and that much depth will tire them out. personally, i never like putting dwarfs in anything deeper than 15 inches for this reason.

as for feeding - -
blood worms, black worms, frog/tadpole bites, and broken up reptomin sticks work well. the worms are a bit fatty and should not be the stable of their diet.

to feed in any tank other than a species only tank, it takes dedication, time, and PATIENCE. they hunt by scent, which means most of the food will be eaten by the fish if you just plop it in. which means handfeeding - either with fingers, tweezers, or a turkey baster and you have to bring the food right to the frog. they will swim away from you at first, but once they smell the food they will be a bit bolder as you approach with the food.

they need soft substrate such as sand - - gravel is a tad coarse and they can get wedged underneath large rocks and get squished

lots of hiding places are a must - - the more places they know they can hide in, the safer they will feel - - heavily planted and tiny caves works perfect
