I have to set up a tank for Indian Leaf Fish at my job. No one knows anything about them there. I am trying to find out ph, temp., food. Just basic stuff. Thanks.

Im assuming you mean Nandus Nandus?

If so, google is your friend or check the species index on here

Do you mean Nandus spp. leaffish, or Pristolepis spp. leaffish?

The two genera are very different. Pristolepis are basically easy to keep and very similar to the African climbing perch in most regards. They're not especially aggressive, and only opportunistically predatory; their mouths are comparatively small, only somewhat larger than, say, that of a gourami. Kept with fish too large to swallow, such as rainbowfish, they're good community fish, and they're quite easy to feed on frozen foods as well as earthworms, river shrimps, etc. Once settled, they even take pellets!

Nandus are rather difficult to keep. They're more or less exclusively predatory, and have very large mouths. They much prefer live foods, particularly river shrimps and earthworms, plus, if you breed them, suitable safe feeder fish such as livebearers and killifish. They're not easily weaned onto frozen foods, and so far as I know, never take pellets. While possible additions to community tanks, their big mouths mean tankmates should be chosen with care, and they're sufficiently difficult to feed you may prefer to keep them on their own.

nandus mercatus, nandus nandus, nandus andrewi and pristolepis marginata are all species of leaf fish from india, you will need to let us know exactly which species you are wanting info on.

hi ive had 2 pristolepis marginata for 3 years now lovely fish which only bother each other at feeding time their both about 15 cm long now and their colouration is deep red with dark lines running through them ,their a lovely fish that is housed with rainbow cichlids and blue acara and ancistrus and they tolerate all of them although they have eaten a large amount of cichlid fry before! anything under 3 cm would be thought of as live food really, they love frozen bloodworm and readily take algae pellets.would be a lovely addition to a tank !they love caves and heavily planted areas to swim through!
