I ebayed for some almond leaves and they finally arrived today. I'm wondering if others use them and what the dosage is. I thought I'd get a set of instructions with the package but didn't so am at a loss about how to proceed. I have a guy who's ailing and have been trying to treat him. He may just be old but I think he has dropsy on an ongoing basis like an elderly person who has digestive problems. I'm hoping the almond leaves can help keep him from getting infections and other problems. Thanks in advance for any info.

I think you just throw a few in the water. The water will become slightly brown. I've only used Atison's Betta Spa which is basically Indian Almond Leaf extract. Have you tried googling Indian Almond Leaf and Betta. You might be able to find something there

I've used both, and I just used to use one betta leaf to a tank (18x10x10), I know used attisons as it is less messing (but I do keep the odd leaf for emergency).

soak in the leaves in the tank for 3 days until the water becomes dark brown then throw your Betta in the tank..... that's it..

another alternative is dried banana leaves.

have you read the pinned topic on indian almond leaf? it's not bad, bit poorly written but all in all ok ;)

How much do you pay for the Indian Almond Leaves ? per leaf, per kilo or how ?

I can probably sell some for a cheaper price + shipping.

I have 2 IAL trees in my backyard.

I haven't read the article but will look at it. Thanks for mentioning that. I've been wanting to try using them.
I paid $9.00 on ebay for 20 leaves shipped directly from Thailand. I'll use these for awhile and see what happens. My 1st Betta, Mr Wu, is ailing and I've tried about everything else. I suspect he's just an old fella but have no way of knowing his age for sure. He's happy in his golden years here but his sides are so extremely bloated. He'd eat 24/7 if I let him and he has loads of energy but I have to keep the water level way down so he can reach the top. He flares occasionally but has quit making bubblenests. He rests off to the side and I've cut WAY back on the amount he eats as his one side gets worse...so I wait for it to go down a bit. I've tried everything :Maracyn with Maracyn2, epsom salts bath, epsom salts directly in his tank, shelled peas which I'm now feeding to him regularly, tetracycline, warming the temp in the tank...and he's still the same. He seems happy enough except when I don't feed him as much as he thinks he should get then he looks at me so sadly. I thought I'd try the almond leaves as it can't do much harm except to hasten his end a bit. The swelling started on one side and is now on the other too but he still tries his utmost. No pineconing at all cuz I've really been watching for that. I got some clove oil for when he gets to the point where he's not enjoying life anymore and is deathly painfully ill then....I'll put him down. All of this has been going on for several months now but he's hanging in there with me worrying about him all the way.... :/

Oh Annie,
you are as daft as I am with our animals. I have got an old gerbil upstairs in a tank. I have to keep trimming his teeth. At the weekend I prepared for the worse. He hadnt eaten, but I cleaned his corners in the cage, bathed his eyes as they keep sticking and put him back in is bed. He hasnt been eating gerbil food for a bit now. He looked so bad I didnt see any point feeding him,but I did... got his usual little china dish and put in uncooked oats, pumpkin seeds, almonds and cereal, grated carrot. Changed his water he got quite upset at me messing his cage. So I put him back in his bed and covered him with bedding. Next morning he hadnt moved so I uncovered him and a head poked out, he stretched walked over to his dish , he had got up and eaten the lot! So I will spoil him for as long as I have him!

Ha ha that's really a cute story and you painted a good picture there. I've had 3 elderly cats ,elderly parents and friends of parents I've cared for too so have vast experience in the field of elder-care. You just never know the turns things are going to take do you? Just giving somebody a good plate of food, a nice bath and clean surroundings can do alot. A few words of kindness and encouragement seems to help too. We're all going to get there ourselves so who knows what we're going to be like? I hope somebody cleans out my cage and gives me my favorite food and maybe I'll decide I can pop my head out too..... :D
