i have recently set up a 8 gallon (uk) tank divided into 4 sections all sections are heated and no filter is installed will reley on regular water changes i believe 100% a week so i`ll do 2 50% water changes a week which should keep them happy :)

each section is 2 gallon (uk) housing 1 male betta

i am wanting if possible to have a bottom feeder of some kind in each section with the betta just to help keep things tidy but if i do get some they would oviously have to
  • be ok in a temperature of 78-80
  • be ok without a filter
  • not be agresive and attack the betta
  • not be the type of fish that the betta will attack
  • cant grow to a massive size due to limited tank section size
so was wondering if anyone had any idea`s for a bottom dweling fish or creature that would be ok

thanks in advance

Well, otos are pretty much the only bottom feeders that won't ougrow the 2 gallon sections, but since they like to be in groups you should buy at least two of them... Since the tank is only 8 gallons, you wouldnt be able to have 4 bettas and 2 otos for each section, IMO it would just be too much of a strain on the bioload :/

What about some snails?

I agree that snails are a good option in such small quarters. I have my Betta in a 5 gallon and he loves it. He has two ottos for company. Once he checked them out and decided they were harmless it's been live and let live ever since. He checks out the snails too but can't figure out a way to eat them.
