I was considering buying an in-line heater for my 72 gallon tank. I'm trying to get as much stuff out of the inside of the tank as possible.

Was wondering if anyone had any experience using one of these or had an opinion related to them.

Thanks in advance.

I have external heaters on 2 out of 3 of my big tanks. The heaters are integrated with the Eheim filters. I have never had any trouble with them, and like you, prefer to keep the tank for plants and fish, not hardware.

I also had one of my breeding rigs heated in a "kind of" inline way. The rack had 3 x 1m divided tanks which were drilled and flowed into each other. Only the first tank with the filter return had a heater in it, the filter outlet was at the far end of the tank train. Once again, I had no trouble with it set up like that, although I can imagine that in a cold room with a limited flow there may be more of a temperature drop across the setup.
