Buying live rock from my lfs, Id say its got a better cure than stuff you would buy online, but still not 100%, what do you think is the minimum ammount of time i could get away with percolating it in the tank before I put my puffer in? Would it help if i took a 3-6lb peice out of my other tank that is fully cured? would a hang on the back filter help? frequent 10% water changes?

lets say you wanna be 100% sure... i'd say 1 month not only for die off, but for most of the leeching 2 be gone!

adding cured live rock...Yes I think it may help I can't hurt, thats forsure. ..

. i'd also say no water changes at all since u have no fish life in the tank.... water changes may infact prolong the cycle.. since u have no lifestock issues i'd say no water changes....

Ter

PS; one month may seem like a lot.. however I've seen my LFS add rock 2 a tank out of a white box, and sell it as cured live rock 5 seconds later...

Bring buckets of saltwater to the LFS and once you purchase the LR, put it straight into the water. If the rock is cured (give it the smell test to be sure) then you can probably just dump the puffer straight in.

Ask your LFS how long the rock has been out on the floor. Then ask them how long it has been in the back room curing.

I think you will find your LFS does not indeed cure rock. I've never seen one that does anything but throw it on the floor when they get it. If they do cure it... that rocks (pun inteded)!

maidenhead aquatics in newport (england) do seen al the holding vats round the back :D

I bought my live rock from Waterways in Wrexham. I picked it and then it was transferred from the curing vat into another large drum and kept for 2weeks for me so I could be sure it was cured. I still left it a month before I added anything to the tank though just to be sure as I didn't want to kill anything

Make sure you buy the necessary testing kits (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, alkalinity+phosphate, calcium to complete the set). salifert kits seem to be recommended alot.

Post your levels up and we'll have abetter idea of how cured the LR is.

The most important thing is making sure the levels are spot on before adding anything.

Slowly slowly is always the best way.

Well their holding tanks are running good numbers. They have holding vats in the back, and most of the stuff they gave me has been in for three weeks. I did pay extra for some stuff that came out of a customers tank that was selling off. Well cured and covered with coraline algea. I will wait a week and run the tests, only reason im in a hurry is because I can very much tell that puff does not like his ten gallon holding tank.
