Hi,

Could someone tell me how i would go about importing bettas into the UK? Im looking for some really nice ones to breed in the future, and though im not planning on importing any right now, when i do i'd like to know how to do it properly!!

Apparently Thailand is one of the easiest places to import bettas from (not sure why, its what i was told!) so does anyone know any specific breeder over there who i could get bettas from? And also what i'd have to do/arrange here, and the sort of price i'd be looking at?

Thanks

I believe http://www.ebetta2u.com ship to the UK, and I think red-devil0602 has ordered from them, so she's perhaps the best person to ask. Apart from that, Bettaman's the man !

Thanks for the link! I've just had a look and it seems VERY expensive! :/

I have got a couple of bettas from Bettaman but i always seem to want the ones that have gone and i get annoyed

Well that's what you can expect to pay, though obviously it works out less (per fish) if you buy 4 fish that can all come in the same shipment.

i thought you couldnt import unless you had a license? -_-

you cant but you can bring them in by ems parcel force a 4 day trip from Thailand or singapore.....its illegal and you take the risks involved, its brining fish in through the postal system, so its not importing as such so it cant be called that this time of year it should be OK for the temperature as it not cold, but any time after September is risky for the fish dying and of course if customs do decide to check the parcel ............. :*) ......your choice

oh great just what i need :-( nobody told me this was illegal when i posted on here before when i said i was ordering it. I didn't know, crap can't do nothing now it's already on it's way :*)
I feel really stupid now, i thought alot of people bought from thailand :(

hey don't panic lots of people do, to import fish you need a license thats IMPORT FISH to do it Via EMS is through the postal service Which is YES illegal but people do it and most are OK but its only going to take one person at customs to open a parcel and lost fish big fine and possible imprisonment and I'm not just saying that i just want to make it clear that your not IMPORTING FISH..they have to go through a BORDER INSPECTION POST TO COME INTO THE COUNTRY THE LEGAL WAY ITS TO STOP DISEASE COMING INTO THE COUNTRY THAT COULD POSSIBLE KILL THE NATIVE FISH SO THAT THE LEGAL ROUTE......THATS WHY IT TAKES ME 5 HOURS TO PICK UP MY FISH THAT ARE IMPORTED FROM TIME OF LANDING THEY LOOK AT HEALTH CERTIFICATE AS ONE COMES WITH EVERY SHIPMENT SO IF PROVES THE FARMS THEY HAVE COME FROM HAVE BEEN INSPECTED THEY CHECK CONDITIONS OF HOW THEY ARE SENT, THEY SOMETIMES CHECK TWO BAGS OF WATER AND THEY INSPECT ABOUT 4 FISH..FOR DISEASE THAT THE DIFFERENCE HOPE THIS EXPLAINS IMPORTING FISH........and believe me its getting tighter to import have to log onto a site called traces were i give them all the details of were they come from health certificate Number and time of arrival so the veterinary people can be at the airport and yes it costs about $10.00 for that, thats £5.00 UK pounds.....SO THERE YOU GO.......... :flex:

Yikes ! What a schlepp !
Gosh, and I didn't know about it being illegal that way either. Thanks for pointing that out !!!
Red, I hope all turns out OK for you.

I do know of someone who bought two pairs of bettas from Thailand and she didnt know it was illegal and luckily for her the parcel wasnt opened. I think she said it took 4 or 5 weeks to get to her which i found amazing, but the fish were ok, though they died of various diseases a few months later.
It cost her over £50 :X
Good luck with yours though :)

wouldnt it just be easier to tell bettaman what fish u r after and let him source them for u...........or am i missing something, which wouldnt b the first time

will send u a food package if u end up inside

Well, i really dont want to go to prison, so i will let Bettaman do all the illegal stuff and hopefully buy some from him! :D

Good lucky with your fish though red-devil -_- Im sure they'll be worth it! :D
