Just a quick question. Is the impeller on a fluval 3 the same size as on the fluval 4? I know the filters are different sizes but are impellers different? The reason I'm asking is because my impeller is faulty (fluval 3) and I know my father-in-law has a fluval 4 which he dosen't use and if they are the same size I could swap. :hey: Thanks

Not sure about the impeller size, but can't you just convince your father in law to give you the Fluval 4 (temporarily of course ;) ), you could just swap the filter media over and run that in your tank.

Over filtration isn't usually a bad thing and you can control the flow rate to a certain extent.

.......... after all, if he gives you the impeller, he's left with a non working filter anyway !

Its over filtered at the moment cos its only a 34l tank, if I put the fluval 4 in, I think the poor fish would have to squeeze round it cos it would nearly fill the tank! I gave him the fluval 4 originally (and the tank :X ) and he bought himself an external eheim so the fluval is just stuck in a cupboard, never to use used again, thats whyI thought to 'borrow' :hey: the impeller out of it and save myself some money!!

When you say impeller do you mean just the actual plastic part with the magnet that you pull out of the hole or do you mean the whole filter head?

If you mean the whole filter head, its more likely that its the magnetics in the head thats faulty, as all the impeller is is a plastic impeller with the two pole magnets on the top, unless its physically broken theres nothing else that could be wrong...

oh damn, thinking about it you're right! :/ The little plastic bit is fine, its just that its making a 'clicking noise' and rfisher said yesterday that it was probably the impeller which was what I was thinking it might be. But if the impeller is intact then it could be the whole 'head'. Can these be taken apart for cleaning or is it sealed, I don't want to pull it apart and completely break it. Thanks
