i went to the pet store with my sister because she wanted to get a few new fishy friends so i took her.

while we were browsing the selection and she was taking her sweet #17##### time deciding on what she wanted to add to her small 6.6gl tank which already houses 5 neon tetras..my eyes gravitated towards this one individual red gourami

she was the only gouraami in the tank along with other fish (i cant remember what was in it) i fell in love

i only have a 10gl tank with 3 other gouramis 2 bloodfin tetras and an iridescent shark in there..i know its too small but my aunt is dropping off her old 55gl tank to me tomoroow or the next day and im going to set that up so all my fish are going to be in there shortly

the 55gl tank is going to seem like the ocean to them when i put them in

and yea i know maybe i should have waited until i had the tank but i just loved her so much and had to take her home with me. i couldnt stand the thought of if i wait a few days she will be gone by the time i come back to get her.

have yet to decide ona name for her, im still thinking

also my aunts tank has been sitting in her garage for a while unused so if anybody can tell me the best way to clean a tank make sure its fish friendly in the end ad told me i would greatly appreciated it

any comments, suggestions, or recommendations would also be appreciated

I can understand that you had to take the fish home. When I saw my falco hawkfish I HAD to get him. An iridescent shark :look: ? That thing will out grow a 55 gallon. The best way to clean a tank is to wipe it with paper towels and water. No soap.
You will want to get a least four more bloodfins. What type are the other gouramis?

Hope this helps! :good:

I made up some super salty water with dissolved aquarium salt. That helps to kill little nasties and is also very very slightly abrasive so helps to get all the crusty bits off in combination with a nylon scrubber/sponge.

yes she just dropped it off to me a couple of hours ago and you would think that a tank sitting in a garage for a couple of months wouldnt get that dirty..but #92### was this thing dirty.

also it probably doesnt help that after they got rid of all their fish all they did was dump the water out they left their gravel in thereand over a few months this thing just acquired so much filth. me and my aunts boyfriend were hosing it down in my driveway which still took forever due to the poor water pressure in my hose because my dogs chew holes in it all over the place.

but anyway after about 20 minutes of hosing it down we brought it inside and i set it on my floor and then i went over evrything with both sides of a sponge.

the only thing that i still havnt been able to get off of the hood and parts of the top border of the tankare the hard water marks or whatever theyre called.

also inside the filter there was a lot of filth and stuff in the tubes to the filter i tried shoving the sponge up there but it can only go so far so any suggestions on what to do about that??

and i currently have 2 powder blue gouramis and 1 dwarf gourami. the dwarf gourami is the only male gourami in the tank the rest including the new red one are all females
