I have made several upgrade to my tank and I am now ready for some coral. I have a few polyps and feather duster growing from my live rock, but I want more variety. So I have a few questions

1. Which is your favorite coral you have in your tank?
2. What are the two things you would have done differently when you started with your first coral?

Thanx

My fave coral would have to be a huge candy cane coral we have, its veryrare to see theese in the shops let alone in such a huge colony.

as for what i`d do diffrent? we got our tank as a second hand full setup. and the light that came with it was a bit poo, but we didn`t bother upgrading,

when we eventually did upgrade WOW!!! what a diffrence a 100w makes, went from 150 to 250 and the corals loved it they are all growing like mad now...

My favorite coral is my Elegance, but I'd never suggest that for a beginner. Aside fomr that, my second fav is my torch coral and I would definitely suggest that for a beginner. Torch's are really easy to keep :)

Were I to do it all over again, I'd have started with Halide lighting instead of wasting time with PCs. Tank looks WAY better and the corals grow WAY faster this way

My fave coral is a torch coral too, we have a hammer as the LFS didn't have a green torch which is what we wanted. Mushrooms grow like mad an IMO are a bit boring unless you get one of the more interesting colours, like bright green. :good: Things like fingers, pussey, colt and tree corals and leathers (Sinularia and Sarcophyton) are pretty easy too but can grow fast. They need a lot of current to remove the slime that they cast off from time to time.

Yeah I think I'm going to get a torch coral and an orange sun coral. :)

thanx for the suggestions. I ordered a Torch coral and Green ricordea.

Alright my stuff came in...I'm gonna leave work early. hihihihihi

I just found out from the Fedex dude that some other person down the street is getting fish from the same place as me.

just an opinion regarding ricordia..i got mine at a LFS, the mushrooms were attached to real small rubble rock.

They dont stay where i put them and are always falling of the rocks, i dont know how your ricordea came in but its a really annoying problem.

good luck with yours anyways :good:

Mine is attached to a little piece of rock too. I put it by a low flow area in the lower third of my tank. I put it on a flat spot on my live rock...we will see tomorrow.

BTW Ski seems like the Torch coral is a hard piece of coral to keep.

:)

even though im to late torch coral is my fav aswell

lol

Yeah it's pretty neat. I was wondering how often you guys feed it and do you feed each head or just the whole thing?

I rarely feed my torch directly. It grabs food when I feed the tank frozen though, so I just let it eat that way. If I'm feeling generous sometimes I feed my larger corals slices of fish or shrimp when I'm preparing either for myself.
