Im Now A Cichlid Owner :) Pics!

Hi Guys

I got these Dempey's over the weekend, after investing in a cheap 4ft tank I think they are perfect!!
The larger one is approx 9 inch and the smaller is 6/7 inch. Not sure on sex of them though - but seem quite bonded.
I've owned puffers and tropicals before, but my these are my first cichlids.

Any advice for a new Owner of Cichlids? and also what do you think?
They seem fine so far, they have a 9inch plec and a small puffer fish as company. (i will have a separate tank in a few weeks for the puffer ad no where else to put him, but he is quite happy) Could i add anything else over time, in a 240litre tank.
Also, my tank doesnt currently have a lid...any ideas on what to do. we were going to try and make one lol

Gosh! That's more than a bargain!

It's so cheap that the price would put me off, making me think that it leaked or something

I've recently paid £230 for a 125L tank...

Thats what i thought...but i took a risk, and it seems to of paid off!
I paid more for the fish than i did for the tank lol

At least it wasn't a huge risk, just £30. Nevertheless, I'm glad it paid off for you!

Enjoy the Dempsey's, not sure on sex, on first glance they both look male but if they get along well maybe not?!

Larger JD is a male and smaller is Female.

the only problem i have is that i now want a Jaguar cichlid and Oscars lol, but i will need a bigger tank lol

That is a nice looking pair you got there. These will be great in a 240, but I wouldn't put anything else with them. What filtration are you using?

im just using 2 internal filters at the mo, currently researching it all! not had a tank this big before lol
do you have any suggestions for a good one?

They are beautiful! You're making me want a bigger tank for JD's now

I recommend the All Pond Solution external filters- much cheaper than the bigger brands. I had a Eheim external and hated it, then got the All Pond Solution external and have had no problems. They seem to be becoming more popular at the moment ^^
