This morning the young mother (I think) didn't want to eat anything, which is really odd because all of my platies are pigs lol. I thought maybe this was a sign that she's going to be ready to drop soon, so I put her in the breeder. I'm wondering if I jumped the gun though. She's really not as big as I thought she would be.

Help would be greatly appreciated.... :flowers:

I had a similar experience with a female platy, I could have sworn she was just about to drop her fry, so I scooped her in the net and put her in the breeder and nothing..... I let her out after a couple of days because she was hating it in there and her gravid spot was gone and she looked smaller. I think the stress of being caught and then isolated made her abort. I've since learned to leave them alone and then catch the fry after they're born, or just let them find a hiding spot and they'll (possibly) survive.

Well, I took her and the breeder out. My curious little puffer kept getting itself stuck.

She still isn't very interested in food...she's active though...swimming around and what not.

I think I'll slow down the intake of my filter, so if she does have them, they hopefully won't get sucked up.

can also put a clean peice of nylon over the end if you are afraid of them getting sucked in. just secure it with a rubberband or a plastic zip tie. baggie ties have metal so do not use them.
