So, in the summer, about late June, I'm moving up North. I'm taking it in a three day shift, with days 1 and 2 driving 8-9 hours, and day 3 driving 3 hours so I'll have time to set up the new house that day and all that. So, here's my issue. I currently have 2 adult german shepherds, and in May, I'm getting 2 pit bull puppies and 2 kittens. I have a 4 door truck. I don't want to put the dogs in crates in the back, because it will be hot and I like to be able to see them and make sure they're okay. I will have fish in buckets on the floor of the passenger seat. I was thinking of putting the puppies in a carrier on the front/middle seat, facing me so I can be sure they're okay so i can focus on the road. Would it be okay to just let the German Sheps ride loose in the back seat? I'm planning on stopping at Motel 6 because they allow pets. How the heck can I pull this off? I'd put the kittens in the carrier on the floor of the front middle seat. So, in the front it would be kind of squished! Is there any easier way to do this that doesn't require me hiring someone to drive them, or put the dogs in the back? And does anyone have any tips on this? Any help would be appreciated, I'm going to have one hell of a drive!

good luck. i think you could get the dog cages? which collapse something like this? stick the 2 shepherds in the back. they shouldn't over heat if you have air con on? or a window open? your in the car with them?

if your stopping off in a motel id be worried about your fish being exposed to ammonia/ without a heater

you have awhile to figure it all out =]

So, the fish I have figured out, because I'm going to put 2 buckets of clean, conditioned water set in the back of the truck, so that I can do partial water changes both days. I'm taking along my heaters, and they'll be plugged in with a converter so they don't freeze. They'll be plugged in that night at the hotel as well. So, not concerned with them too much, as I have that figured out (finally)!
I want to figure out how to get everything set up now, so I don't have to worry about it later, and I know how much I need to save up, as i have no crates ATM. Alright, so, here's my newest plan:
-German Sheps in crates on the back seats, their doors facing the doors so i can get them out of course
- cats in crate on the floor behind the passenger seat
- fish buckets behind the drivers seat and middle seat on the floor
- Pittie pups on the front seat.

Hows that??

sounds all right. have your buckets got lids? if not half fill them. imagine breaking and getting water+fish all over your car floor?

I'm just trying to figure out why you're getting 2 new pups and 2 new kittens right before you embark on this 3-day journey.

It may seem crazy, and it certainly is, but, I think i can make this work. I'm only driving up there alone, I have a friend who is driving up there and will be getting there 3 days later, but is coming from the other side of the country, so, we can't drive together and all that. She wants one of the puppies, and a kitten, and since I know who I'm getting them from (a good animal shelter where I used to work) we figure I'll just pick them up and we'll call it a day. We'll be sharing a house, and yes, a house, not an apartment with these dogs lol. With 10 acres, so, plenty of room for them to romp!

They sure do! 5 gallon buckets with lids, so I'm not too concerned with them spilling. I'm planning on filling them about halfway to 3/4 way full. Should I drill holes in the top you think? Maybe a handful centered in the middle to let them get new air or what should I do instead?? Thanks!
