I'm Moving And..

I don't know when. It could be this month and it could be two years from now, it's a long story.
I was wondering, if I let it cycle, but I have to move, can I dump half of the water(or less)and filter media in buckets from menards and toss the rest? Will it mess with the cycle at all?
It's a 50 gallon, by the way.

You don't actually need to keep any of the water, all of the beneficial bacteria is in the filter media. Well, you'll need a small amount of tank water in order to keep the filter media wet, but that's all
