Hi everyone, im looking for a lighting unit that replicates actual sunrise and sunset, like a dimming control built in, if any body knows what i mean, or even has one? I would be very appreciative on knowing where these are found,
thanks guys.

Put your tank near a window !

This is actually technically very difficult:

Flourescent lamps dont like to be dimmed - they will goto about half brightness then go out. (electronic dimming ballasts are available)
Incandescent lamps (good old light bulbs) will dim nicely, BUT will change colour towards the red end - somewhat more than the sun I would guess.
LEDs will dim too - quite easily, but produce very little light in comparison to "normal" lighting.
No experience of metal halide, but my understanding is that they use an arc, which is going to be either on or off.

You could do it mechanically... ie moving the lamp(s) or moving a baffle...

Sounds an intriguing project.... errr, why ?

I cant put it near a window, im in a bedroom with 2 tanks, so thats why im looking for the electronical solution?
