I'm getting a Chilean Rose Tarantula. I'm getting a female, and I'm still preparing the housing, but It's got one more thing to go. I'm getting a little ceramic pot for her to hide in, and a spray bottle to mist the enclosure. I've got an incandescent light for heat. I've read that incandescents don't make heat, that's not true. Turn off a lamp and the touch the bulb if you don't believe me. I've got reptisand in the bottom and little rocks scattered about. And a little blue water bowl that's about 1 cm tall, and I'll only put 1/4 of an inch of water in, so Rosie won't drown.

That's awesome! I've always wanted a tarantula, but Mom said she'd never come over and see me again if I got one.

i'm very happy your excited, personally i will keep on liking them from a great distance :)

I just got home an hour ago. I put Rosie in her tank, and she climbed the wall!!! I'm pretty sure that a spider isn't supposed to climb the plastic wall. I got out my magnifying glass (as if I'd need it for a spider with a 5" legspan) and looked at the wall. There were little staticly charged grains of sand stuck to the wall. She was using that. I couldn't afford a little log or anything, but I could afford a coffee mug. I used the coffee mug for her cave. She's in it right now! Sooooo cyuuuuute!!!!

jees hows big that magnifying glass, you wanna be careful wielding that when the suns out might fry you little spider :)

PICTURES!!! You must post pictures. I'm glad she's enjoying her coffee cup.

I have been having urges towards getting a T recently,I used to get a shiver down my spine just looking at them but recently I handled my mates and now i think they are great

Cool! I have a Chilean rose haired tarantula.Few good tips you might wanna know after 2 1/2 years of having her.
Always;
1)Spray twice daily, if humidity is not high enough i find mine goes of food.
2)For the water bowl soak some kitchen roll or buy a crystal gel formula to make drinking easier for them.
3)If you ever see her on her back looking mangled,dead or in distress DO NOT TUCH HER, or throw her in the dustbin :rolleyes: .She will be shedding her skin/shell and is very weak and vonurable for a couple of days after (can't actually remember now, don't handle mine)
4)If you see crickets irritation her remove them and feed them another day.Mine got very annoyed when a cricket kept trying to crawl/bite her.
Hope that helps.
Oh also mine seems to climb her tank (plastic) occasionally, actually got upside down a few times :blink: .I think it's because it gets to hot for them.SO be sure you have somewhere they can get away from the heat :good:

I have also had ideas of perhaps buying a tarantula someday soon since they really are simple to take care of yet really cool at the same time. If you could post pics that would be awesome, I would love to see her.
