I'm embarassed to ask this...

Will he bite me if I put my hand in the tank? I tried to feed him a pea, but he didn't eat it. I want to take it out, but I'm scared to put my hand in the tank.

No, he wont bite. And even if he does it wont hurt at all. Mine has bitten me when I put my finger in the water but he never bites when I stick my whole hand in there.

It doesn't hurt unless he catches a nerve or a sore, and they almost never do. Even then, it hurts very, very little. Not even like a pinprick. You usually feel PRESSURE, but not pain. He can't hurt you. No worries. My Bettas will nibble on me from time to time, and it's really not that big a deal.

Actually, he probably will but it won't hurt. I actually feed mine off my finger so they bite me everytime I feed them. They also get me sometimes when I'm doing a water change. They have done it when I wasn't paying attention and startled me. I jump and scare them. When I feed them, if I take too long to put my finger in the water, one of them has even jumped at my finger trying to get it. Now if you ever get any pirahna (sp), Then you can start worrying about putting your hand in the water.

Mine goes for my finger tip because she thinks it is food, but it does not hurt, they never draw blood...no worries, they can't draw blood. UR SAFE!

mine nibble sometimes--I think it's cute --but it never hurts. I don't usually even feel it!

depends on the betta!! i put my hand in to clean the sand in the girls' tank and a few of them came over and bit my hand while i wasn't looking!! scared me to death!!

p.s. that's how jaws got her name!

One of my females in my 120 gallon latched onto a hair on my arm because I was syphoning the sand and she shook it back and forth. It kind of hurt because she pulled the hair. But a betta bite doesn't hurt.

Ok, Thanks everyone who took the time to answer my question. All is well. I removed the pea, and did not get attacked by the betta. He's the first fish I've ever had, and, well, "Siamese Fighting Fish" sounds scary.

your lucky, i did the same thing once... i had 5 fingers when i went for the pea and now well i only have 4 and a half
