Everyone is telling me it's ok to cut them in half and hold them in place on a rock and they will attach and grow again! but why not just cut them in half on the rock and leave them alone to grow or will the die that way ? and I am a little confussed they move on there own, isn't that cruel or painful are they an animal, or plant I feel bad doing that ???

Its possible to "frag" mushrooms. Its not as simple as slicing it up and placing it on a rock so it will attach however. Yes you can slice them up but you need something like an elastic band wrapped around the mushroom and rock to hold it in place for a week or so whilst it re-attaches.
The reason its done is to make them grow on faster. Some mushrooms take a very long time to multiply so this can be done to make the growth faster. Although they are animals, they as also a sort of living structure of signel celled organisms... (probably not correct but i dont know how to explain it batter). For example.. if you get your arm cut off it will die and you wont get another.. cut up a mushroom or any other coral will mean they should all regrow into new colonies.

But my real question was if its on a rock can you just cut it in half and it will be ok because its already attached ?

you can cut it but if all you wish to do is cut it in two the best way to do it is with a rubber band. The pressure of the rubber band makes the mushroom divide in two on its own. And it should also stay attached, but this is up to the mushroom. Mushrooms can and do move if they feel the need.

By all means go for it, the only reason you relocate the mushrooms to elsewere is so that you will have them somewere else, if you like were they are and want the rock they are on to be covered in major shrooms then you don't need to move them elsewere.

Nav, no idea what you were trying to say there, perhaps you meant that each cell in part of the mushroom can become a whole mushroom.
