So... I got some cherry shrimp a few months ago, and everything has gone wrong since then :(

first of all, the heater broke. so i had to buy a new one.
then the tank cracked, so i had to buy a new one.
then the filter pumped 5 gals of water onto my floor.
then my only male died, and i was left with just 3 pregnant females, and one that wasnt pregnant.

now two of the pregnant females have died and i have no idea why :(
i'm doing a waterchange atm, but all the stats are fine etc. the other shrimp and snails all look fine. :(

if the last pregnant female dies, i'm giving up with cherry shrimp :(

I don't know very much about shrimps at all, but I've read that copper is bad in sw inverts. So it might hold some truth for fw? Am i dumb in making that conclusion anyone? Anyhow, have you used any copper based meds in the tank? I've heard about it staying in the silicone seals in the tank and leaching out.

Just a thought from a shrimp ignorant person who would love to help you ;)

Unlucky mate, Kj is right about Copper affecting FW inverts but as its a new tank it shouldn't be a problem with residue from old medicines, although it could be from re-used ornaments or filters from a tank that had meds in it. I've managed to kill a shrimp in the past by using a net that I had used in my hospital tank, which is why I have a separate shrimp net now.

Its always hard to work out why a shrimp has died, especially when the water stats are ok, it could anything really.

I'm guessing not as its been a while since you posted but do you still have the corpses? I've read about somebody raising "test-tube" shrimp from a mother that died. They carefully scraped the eggs from the corpse and kept them in a pint glass with an air stone until they hatched about a week later then transfered them over to the normal tank.

Cheers guys. I havn't used any meds for about a year, so i dont think it's that :(. Although i did put a bit of lfs water in my tank yesterday (slap me) so maybe they had some copper in? although the filter shrimp was in that bag for a good 40 mins... =/

Yeah i still have the corpses, i was wandering if i could raise the eggs somehow, i'll have to give it a try! thanks :D

okay, got all the eggs out... its amazing how far into the mum they go! :shout:

i just knocked the jar over :(:(:(:(

i got about 10 eggs left... :(

Don't give up :D

I've successfully hatched eggs in a shallow tub before. All I did was changing 50% of the tub water with tank water every day and some hatched. Some went mouldy which I took out. Also, I kept a few strands of moss in there for the newborn to hang on to and graze.

Good luck :D

oh cool, i'll put some moss in then.

yeah.. i hope i get at least one male lol :(
