Was reading a thread on Pictus catfish and noticed Bristle nosed Plec etc in the same thread .

It sorta said something like these fish were being bred in captivity and you may not always get what you thought you got.

I will be looking for Bristle nosed Plecs any idea what NOT to buy.

Will it be easy or should I just be ignorant and get what is there?

If I understand your question correctly, then the pictus and bristlenose look different, you shouldnt have trouble telling them apart.

I am scared of getting a mixed bristle nose that may grow big as I sorta understood they cross breed.

just go to a reputable lfs that has a tank full of BNs, they are very common...bread and butter fish for lfs's, so you should be safe enough if it's a decent shop.

I think you are confused over CFC pointing out the fish in another post is a Synodontis hybrid because many different Synodontis species are being hybridised in fish farms. This is not at all related to Pictus or BN.

I personally have not seen than around much, except for the one time at Petco when I happened to see them, and I got Mr Angry Eyes. Maybe its just my area (north Florida), but so far I haven't seen them any other time. Strangely, the few BNs that were there were pretty large, about 3 inches or so. Go figure.

Yes spot on Thats the thread that has made me confused. They dont seem to have bristle noses as (fry? babies) the little ones I saw just looked like little brown diamonds lolThe ones I saw were barely 2cm if that you could not really tell what they were, I am waiting on my tank maturing or will they be okay once the stats have been okay?
