Just a curiosity thread, but if you had the time/space/money etc, are there any pets that you would keep that you do not already have?

For me, right at the top of the list by far for me would be miniature bantam chickens- i grew up with these animals as pets when i lived on the farm with my mother and brother, but when i turned 16 and moved out of home to make my own way in the world and get a job and a place to rent of my own etc, i never had the opportunity to have them again...
I have my own place these days, but my garden is pretty small and i don't really have the space to have a chicken pen, however if i did have the space or managed to find some i would totally keep chickens again- they're really nice animals, intelligent and inquisitive and they recognize you and follow you around and respond to their names when you call them etc, and miniature bantam chicks are cute beyond all words.
Other than the chickens, i would probably keep finches or Chinese or Japanese quails, or perhaps a Syrian hamster again, but thats about it for me :).

How about you guys/girls :) ?

If I had the time money and space (yes I would need all three! :( ) Then I would love to get ferrets

I would have one of these set-ups that includes water and dry-land and a little community. I know nothing about this kind of set-up though

I Definitly would get cats, frogs, bunnies, and a parrot or two. I probubly wouldn't have all of these at the same time, but I would really like to have them some piont in the future.
Might get a snake, a madagascar hissing cockreach, rats, a turtle, and guinny pigs.
I would have put dogs as a definit, but I already have two.

If I had a house with a fenced yard, I'd love to have a dog again. I live upstairs in an apartment complex and the idea of having to walk one several times a day, even in rain or snow, is just too much.

I've never had a bird, but have sometimes thought about getting some of the beautiful little finches I've seen. :D

I always feel kinda sad when i see the tiny cages that finches are often sold in, but i think if you have an Avery (sp?) for the birds which allows the birds to have decent short stretches of flight rather than just fluttering from one perch to another then i think this is much better and ideal :good: .
My fiance isn't particularly keen on indoor birds due to all the noise they make, but if one day i did ever get finches i would certainly provide them either with a very large cage or a small aivery  .
For now though, i think i will just enjoy the different varieties of wild finches and other birds that regularly visit my garden :good: .

Hi Tokis-Phoenix :)

You're absolutely right about birds needing a decent sized cage. It's like that with caring for any animal. If you can't do it right, it's better all around to just not keep them.

That's exactly what I was going to say! For the dog, I'd love to have a German Shepard (Alsatian), and I'd love an aviary with finches and canaries. They had one at the Hospice House where my mom was, and I found it to be very soothing to watch them and listen to them bicker.

I'd love to have a green tree python & some finches!
Right now I have to focus on saving money to buy my parakeets a nice house as they are living in an apartment sized cage right now..

I would love an alpaca (or two). I saw a mother and baby at a county show last year and think they are adorable!
Here is a pic if you have no idea what an alpaca is :)

OOh my....where do i begin? I am really an animal lover, all kinds of animals (although I'm not a vegetarian).
1st I'd get an acreage. 100's of acres. A sanctuary would be nice. For those animals that people can't keep or don't want anymore. Plus, I'd have all kinds of birds, cats, dogs, snakes, and aquariums. My place would be for common animals as well as exotic. It would be great to be able to teach people about the kinds of animals I had. This would be my job!! Schools could bring the kids for field trips and maybe it'd be open to the public on certain days.

I'd need to win the lottery a million times over to pay for everything. Also, for food, vet care, hiring help, machinery, and keeping up the place!! Heck I'd prob need my own vet since I'd have so many animals!

Call me crazy!!! I've been told "go to college, major in biology, and work at a zoo"!
