If I Were To...

If you are just replacing the bulbs then yeah :p

If you are getting a new unit for T5s it depends what you have now and what you buy. Is it a light unit built on the hood of the tank?

T5 nd T8 bulbs are different fishy. You can't put T5 bulbs into your T8 unit! They are slimmer bulbs and different fittings :)

They are different ballasts aswel. They are different wattages to eachother so need a different power supply, so you would have to switch ballasts too

Or you can use T6's, you'll need to make or buy some rubber bushes to seal them though, they put out a bit more light than T8's as less light is refracted from the tube, meaning more useful light in the tank. The colours of the tubes may not be as aesthetically pleasing from a marine point of view but they'll still grow your corals.
