Identify This Fish Please

Hey everyone, I am new here and recently bought a used tank with fish and I cant identify this fish. I was told it was an anthias but Im not sure.

it looks more like a grouper of some description tbh but im not 100% sure on this one.

certainly not an assessor and would be surprised if its an anthia. I immediatly thought grouper as well

Definitely has grouper features... Tried searching around the net but couldn't find anything similar. Does he have a lyretail? Cannot tell in the picture.

thanks for all your help I was pretty certain it wasnt an anthias and after looking at groupers it does have those features just not sure what kind. I was wondering cause I added some small damsels and he was aggressive and ate them. It was tough getting a good pic but he doesnt have a lyretail

What size tank do you have him in?

75 gal hes almost 5 inches long

Groupers have flat-like tails. This fish has a crescentic tail. Almost hind-like. Hard to tell. Can you get a better shot? SH

if its any relation to the grouper species, your going to want to get it re-homed. They get HUGE

I finally got a better picture and after looking at some grouper pics this one doesnt have a flat tail so maybe it would be considered a lyretail I just thought those where longer

just ran across a picture of a creole fish grouper they have a forked tail and blue spots that run down the top just below the dorsal fin. looks like I found my guy
