I got this FW shrimp about a month ago, but am still unsure about the exact species. It's about 6cm/ a bit over 2 inches in size from head to tail. It seems too dark and large for a Ghost Shrimp. People have suggested Chameleon Shrimp, and I've found a pic online of Boxer Prawn that looks a bit similar.

What do you think?

Looks like some sort of prawn. I feed those to my cichlid :p
I had a few once upon a time in a couple of tanks, they grew very quickly, very large and became territorial. They also started chasing my fish and their claws are sharp so I hope you don't have small fish.

My lfs has some that are about 6" long  , I've seen one munching on a 4" severum before  , here's a pic of one at my lfs...I took a pic of it one day while I was in there just because I can't believe how large he is. Keep in mind those are 4-5 inch fish he's with

Hmm, I might be in for trouble . So far, he hasn't created any problems, him and the fish mind their own business. I've come to the conclusion, with help from some people, that my shrimp probably belongs to the Macrobrachium family. Some of them stay the size he is now, some of them grow to at least double the size. We'll see what happens

from what I can see. (in the aqualog of freshwater shrimps, crabs and crayfish) he is definatly Macrobrachium sp. and grows to 9cm. and that the common name is the papalopan prawn. he is a member of the long armed shrimp family.

Thank you :). I may have to move him into a shrimp-only tank in the future if he gets that large. Or with some unwanted livebearer fry  (joking).
