Hey guys and gals!

I just gave a new betta a nice little 1g home (just bought the betta today, i have betta fever and proud of it B) ). It is blue and the fin at his lower part of the body is red. It has short fins. So now im wondering, is it male or female. Most shops here sell males, not females. But when i put it in a transparent cup and put it in my other betta's 10g tank, neither flared up :dunno: . I tend to trust Celica's recognizing skills more than mine. However, it is coloured just like a male, except it doesnt have the fanciful fins. I also hear that wild males have short fins. Is it a female or a wild male?

Thanks y'all B)

I've seen female Bettas at a LFS, and they all have short fins. However, it would be easier to tell for sure if you had a pic to show :) I'm not sure what wild males look like.

I should be able to provide a pic this saturday. My dad has the digicam, and he just went out of town. Check this thread on saturday!

Hi Phantom Thief :)

Congratulations on getting your new betta!

I've never seen a wild betta in any of my lfs. Do they sell them in Malaysia? I'll be looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Thanks for the congrats. But it has a white horizontal line right now, probably stress, from being kept in a teeny plastic bag. Yes, kept, ready for people to buy. Hopefully it'll recover after a few days. I've never seen wild bettas either, just stories of how they look like. And BOTH my dad and the digicam is out of town. And I really have no idea if they sell them here. If they do, its new to me too. I'll keep posting to every reply B) .

P.S: Im looking forward to POSTING the picture  !

Ok, i found out now,

its male, kinda dissapointing as i wanted to breed them. The horizontal stripe is gone (maybe because of its new freedom) and it built a bubble nest. But i'll be posting a pic on saturday, so keep your eyes open, might be your only chance to see a short finned male .
