I'm looking at either stocking my 15 gallon, or moving the small amount of fish from my 30 gallon to my 15 gallon...
anyways, I was looking at some awesome shrimp and i was wondering, what else could I get to go into the tanks?
I've seen some freshwater crabs, and some aquatic insects, but I'm not sure what all is available in the pet trade, anyone got some ideas??
also, some names for some good shrimp could be really helpful too

amano/cherry/bumble bee :good:

The smaller shrimp really do better in species tank, as other fish even the mellowest of fish would eat baby shrimp and might have a go at a freshly moulted adult (though some fish are more shrimp safe than others obviously). You could have some different snails in the tank, quite a few people keep apple snails, couloured ramshorn or nerite.

I don't think there is a truely 100% freshwater aquatic crab, I think the most common one is the red crab but that needs access to land (and brackish water according to some experts). PFK Article

Rainbow crabs are often seen at LFS, but these also need land areas. PFK Link

I'd just stick to a shrimp tank personally, the easiest beginner shrimp is the cherry shrimp (what I've got) and is a good starter shrimp.

I read up on cherry shrimp just a month or so ago, and was going to get some, but the idea started to slowly fade away, as i couldn't find any, and didn't have a clean tank (water in the 15 gallon got a nice cover of guck on it when i started that up time and again) But I think i might start looking for them again... I remember reading that they're really easy to breed, once they get settled in! And I was thinking of having it so that I would have them breed, and once the eggs hatch, I'd let them grow a little bit, then feed them to the fish. Be healthier for the fish than the flakes, and it'd help limit down on the amount of shrimp being kept.
Would there be any problems with this idea?

We sell cherry shirmp in work for £9 each.
Do you really want to feed them to your fish?

!!!!!
For 9 quid I would expect 9 shrimp XD. Where do you work by the way, I'm interested in becoming a supplier :p

There are completly aquatic freshwater crabs that are kept, and some species that are almost completly aquatic, but they arent that common. Most are only sold in Germany at the moment.

no clue how much £9 is Canadian, but i do know they're a good price here, as with every other damn fish :p
and i'd feed the younger shrimp to my fish, maybe, if there was no problem with it

I seen aquatic crabs all over on pictures around the internet, and videos on youtube, but i never found out the names of the crabs!
I did find some crabs, which i believe were aquatic not too long ago, but i never got to find out the name.

from what I've gathered, there are 2 potential problems with keeping crabs in aquaria:

1.they're really good at escaping. they climb up tubes and hoses. A respected LFS worker discouraged me from buying crabs because of this problem. I've asked employees at other LFS and I've been told that yes, they climb out all the time.

2.they're predators and will always grab a fish if they can grab it, including at night, when fish may be more vulnerable.
