Any ideas for making cheap heater guards -guards alone cost almost as much as new heaterwith guard on Ebay. Pets are suicidal!
1. How do I stop my clumsy adult turtles from smashing the heater? Stupid things try to sit on it and dislodge it from tank side so suckers are useless as turtles are quite heavy. Afraid they will smash it and electrocute themselves.
2.My baby yellowbelly hatchlings have taken to basking on heater now that it's colder.-worried they will burn themselves.
3.Also have a common plec that plays football with the heater and is strong enough to move filter.

i have used two ltr and one ltr
plastic bottles before today but just
as a stop gap till i could buy
one

I can whole-heartedly recommend the Rena SMart Heater range, with the 300W version available on Ebay for ~£22 (bought one from two different sellers, only as original seller did not have any shown in stock when ready for second one) and the smaller wattage ones just a few pounds cheaper.

The heater element is held within the carbon fibre shell, so anything but torpedo-shaped Neon Tetras and alike cannot enter the "tunnel" to touch the heat source directly. Whats more, a connector kit is available which hooks up the heater as a replacement "in" pipe to many popular external filters, so the chances of "cold spots" in the tank are pretty low.
