Hi, i have taken over my sons 9g tank that he had in his bedroom with a few goldfish in but he didnt look after them and they are now in our pond outside. anyway just wanted to know what i could do with it i have always wanted to keep cichlids would this be ok in this size tank? i have heater, light and filtration system and a ton of black slate that i thought i could make a good feature with.

Hi,

Is that US or UK gallons?

If it's UK, then you could keep a couple of Blue Rams Mikrogeophagus ramirezi..

They stay quite small, growing to about 2inch max and look stunning. They will prefer slightly acidic and warm water though.

Everything ive read says its 10g minimum for 1 ram, so for a pair you'd need atleast 20g. If you want cichlids you'll need to really look into shell dwellers :) If you want to stray away from them but remain unique you can go for dwarf puffers etc.

9 US gallons certainly wouldn't be enough for a pair of rams, although with good filtration and plenty of hiding places I believe a pair could fit into a 9/10 Uk Gal tank.

Puffer's have a lot of character and are great 'pet' fish, good recomendation.
