What shrimp is this and can they live wif cories and otos?

No idea what it is exactly, but its definitely not any of the peaceful shrimp i know, and it reminds me of this topic . As a general rule for shrimp, if it has regular or big claws it aggressive. The exception would be ghost shrimp, which have regular claws-but ghost shrimp are small.

I think someone must have either imported a tonne of these, or have started breeding them on mass, I never saw these at all until about 6 months ago and know they are everywhere

I think it may be Caridian gracilirostris, an Indian shrimp; common name red nose or rhino or mosquito shrimp. It only grows to 4 cm. If that’s what it is it would be fine with ottos and cories. They are mostly veggie and can nibble plants if they don’t have enough algae or other green food. Check out the thread linked by three-fingers to see if it’s the long armed one, they do look similar and the front legs are not visable in the photo.

Amano Shrimp? If so then will not be aggressive to any fish.

I was thinking red nose shrimp too, I can't spot the arms that a longarm shrimp would have.

Now thats a red nose shrimp.. nothing like that monster there..
Its a variety of long arm shrimp. Looks just like mine did when they came from the shop. Like butter wouldnt melt!! The head is identical, and they dont get there *long Arms* for a good month depending on available food source. I bet he bought it as a *fresh Water Shrimp* . Seems all fish/pet shops are selling them as that. There is another topic on here with the same shrimp, eating someones tetras!..lol

It definetly doesn't look like an Amano or Red Nose Shrimp.
