Hi all,
Bought the last Whiptail (labelled only as whiptail and i was rushing home so forgot to ask the species name  ) in my LFS today. Been looking for these forever, so i must admit that it was a bit of an impulse buy (Have done lots of reserach though, just didnt wanna miss the opportunity :D )
Currently its probably about 7cm or so, rough estimation though.

Anyway, here is a picture (Best pic of a fish ive taken in my life haha. thanks to my parents new camera :D ):

Any one able to ID it? I believe it is a Red Lizard Whiptail - L010A. Can anyone confirm this or unconfirm (cant remember the opposi of confirm haha)?

Regards,
Indir

Yes! you are right..... that is the best photo you have taken, and yes!... you are right... it is a Red lizard whiptail you have there..... Easy to keep (veggies).... Easy to breed. and you have the perfect substrate for it.

Thanks alot mate :D Now to get my hands on a few more. Bit expensive though.. Its about 5cm (on closer look) and no more then a cm thick , its tiny :p and cost me 25 AUD. Fair bit, but my favourite catfish so well worth it :D

And thank you very much. Parents have a nice camera now. 12mega pixel, 10 optical zoom, HD images are possible too. :)

His settled in well so far, and has blended into my wood making me panic several times today :p

Thanks again Lud. BTW, hows your friend Tonis tank coming along now? Ill go check the thread if i can find it again :D

Hello Endir.... Strange you should ask about.... "now I'm really relying on you guys", because so many things have happenned in the meantime, & I was there again tonight.... decided that mentioned topic/thread is getting a bit "busy".... So, I'm starting a spinoff tonight. Will post updates in a mo......Under title.... "Update on pub tank"......

Get more & breed 'em (whiptails).... excellent community fish & will sell like hotcakes!

Going to ask LFS to order more in for me :) Going to get 3 more. Should give me a pair hopefully. And see how i go breeding them :D

Ill be waiting for your thread mate :D Off to see if i can find the new thread then :D

Hmm.. Looks more like the L010A to me. Ill try to get some more pics to make it easier. Any angles that would make it easier?

Indir

Hmm ok. I will have to keep comparing them then. Any specific things i can look out for on the whiptail to correctly ID? Like fin barring or anything along those lines

Indir

a mouth shot would help. dentition is different between the two animals. L-10a also grows into a much more stereotypical rineloricariine body shape, with an arrowhead head profile, and a thicker body, much like r. lanceolata. This fish has a totally different body shape. Plus, your fish isn't, well, red.

Ok mate, ill try to get a mouth shot of him when i can catch him on the glass lol. Which i have only seen once since ive got him :p

His a lightish brown colour, yeah.

Ill try to get pictures up asap.

Indir
