I'm curious about irredescent sharks.. I've seen lots of pics of 3-4 foot long ones.. Do the ID sharks from stores really have the ability to grow to 3-4 feet long?..

I've seen some of about 1 foot, but never much larger then that in any tank.. I saw the pics in the sticky, but I'm not sure which one of those pics is the ID shark..

So I'm curious if anyone has any ID sharks over 1 foot, or has seen any larger then a foot long in a tank.

I've got 3 of them that I've had for awhile, and they are a favorite for sure.. I'm just starting to wonder if they can really get to be 3-4 feet long..

I was looking at a 6ft 150g tank thinking I bet my sharks would like that, but I guess they'll probably only grow to 1ft in a tank of 6ft in length..

You'd think they would be phased out of pet stores, but then again look at petsmart and their pacu selling for $2.

I regularly see these fish at 2'+ as a store near me rehomes larger fish. (they also supply huge tanks; 10'+ are not unusual & 8' is a standard size)
They refuse to stock any of the Pangasius species or juvenile Pacus but rehoming large fish is a different matter.

It is rare to see a Pangasius over 18" without some snout damage.

Yea the ones I see at the lfs always have serious problems with their snouts.. mine are about 4-6'' now (55g tank), and will occassionally go pretty hard into the glass, which I hate.. I always tell everyone not to walk loudly/heavily near the tank, or rush into the room fast as it spooks them..

I'd hate to have to get rid of these guys... and the options for re-homing them aren't great either.. it would be better for everyone if they'd just stop selling them..

Maybe I'll get rich before they get large and I'll be able to afford a 20ft long tank.. LOL ;)

We had 3 ID sharks at the fish store that were 18" each. They were housed in a 250 gallon tank until sold. Beautiful fish. Yes, it's very sad to see the Pacus in Petsmart... was there the other day and they recommend a 30 gallon tank for them as well *sigh*

They got new little signs on the fish tanks at petsmart.. with approx tank size for the fish.. pacu was listed at 30g.. Was funny and pathetic at the same time.
