Local fish shop ordered 6x L190s which duly arrived and were moved between tanks. Apparently they didn't realise until later that they had an extra surprise too:

They don't know what it is but they suspect it's an L-number. Their book is somewhat out of date and - I mentioned I'd ask around. Any ideas?

?, which plec are we looking at?, is it the royal(looks like one lol), or the front one?.

The back one looks like a 190 but the front one is a hypostomus.sp, doesn't look quite right to be the standard common or a gibby but from that family i would definitely say.

The one in the foreground. It is larger and pale by comparison but does apparently go darker at times.

Then it's definitely not a royal and 100% not a peckoltia species, the fish definitely is some sort of hypostomus species but if it's not the standard ..ie the above that i mentioned it could be quite a few to chose from, many hypo species are hard to identify and for this reason alone i wouldn't even bother taking a guess. Either way it is part of the 'common plec' family with it be a hypo species, L number will be vary vague.... take a look HERE!! it really is the best thing that can be offered, try and match as closely as possible and you will probably have a species very close to the picture.

Sorry i cant be any more help :look:

I think it could possibly be a L104 Clown Panaque?

Please dont take this the wrong way but do you just pull names out of thin air? lol, the plec looks nothing like a clown in anyway, shape or form. Infact it couldn't be any further from that plec if you tried :p .

Anyways, looks a lovely plec but if it follows the hypo species trait they will get quite big and cumbersome.
