I bought a little Bristlenose plec the other day, it was labelled "Starlight Bristlenose" which I think might be right, but I'm a bit confused as keep having different pics coming up when I'm searching.

He's only about 1" at the moment, and in a 200l tank is pretty difficult to get a photo of. But I'll try and do the best description I can. He does have a few bristles on his nose starting, black in colour with little white specks all over and a white tip/line on his tail fin. Can't see one on his dorsal, but don't know if that's just due to being a youngster. I think it's L182 and L183 I'm getting mixed up with. Can anyone confirm? Also, I paid £5.75, decent price or over the top? Couldn't resist the lil guy!

This is actually a starlight L182, if it has white seams on its fins it with be a white seamed plec L183.

Try and get a pics, either way £5.75 is a good price.

He looks like that except for the white seam. Managed to get a look at him, and he does have it on his dorsal but very faint at the moment. Tried to get a pic but by the time I got the camera set(new one, yet to figure out settings) he'd moved. Will keep an eye out for him.

If he/she has white seams then its a L183 white seamed plec :), stuning fish and a bargain at £5.75

A pic would be ideal just to confirm though :)

Thanks Jen, will try my best to get a few pics - might take a while though he's microscopic in the tank LOL.

LOL, i'll be waiting ;)... L183's are one of my fav plecs.... absolutley stunning as babies.

I think I might have his size wrong though, been looking at pics of L183's at 1" and he's definitely not as big as that! He's absolutely TINY.

He will soon grow and only get more stunning as he/she grows :), they do get a bit bigger than your conventional common BN and a tad more aggressive but still definitly worth it lol

Well, I'm assuming it's male. I think I read BN's only have the bristles is they are male? Or is that completely wrong.. he's only got two wee bristles at the moment.

Normally 'common' females have no bristles but i have even seen some common females with them, L183 females will have a row of bristles running across there top lip, if the bristles continue up the nose then it usually is male :)

As promised, photos. He striped up when I caught him to photograph so can't see the spots that well, if at all. Can see the seam slightly on his tail, but hard to photograph something so small. Be better to get them once he's coloured up and grown a bit I think! Put him back in the tank for a shot as well..

Thats a really hard ID m8, would need a pic in a non stressed state, from that pic he/she doesnt look like a L183 but becasue of the stress marks its making it difficult to even hazard a guess lol

Will have to wait until it's bigger, unless I get lucky and get him/her out at one point! Striped up as soon as I took it out, so will see what I can do.

Anyone have any tips on photographing a small plec without stressing it?
