Hi,

Picked this up the other day, advertised as a "Longnose Whiptail".
After googling a few times I couldn`t find an exact match.
Can someone give a positive Id please.

Do you have some other photos? The closest I can think of is Sturisoma barbatum but even that doesn't seem quite right.

Hi Bloo,
I can`t get any clearer pics at the mo as the camera`s not working properly.
I can tell you it moves very slowly, and appears to "walk" on its mouth in a sideways motion, it also spends 75% of its time partly submerged under the sand, it has the trait of a ray when it shimmers and burys itself. See bad quality video.

I will try to get some other pics later.

Just Googled, and PlanetCatfish have a common name of "Knob nosed Whiptail Catfish"

Like the sig says "Always learning something new every day"

I tried to get some more photo`s this morning but he was burried in the sand and I didn`t want to disturb him.
I`ll get some photo`s at "Tea Time" as, believe it or not, he sits in the palm of my hand and feeds, in the water of course. :p
I have read somwhere that they are very delicate and they will starve to death trying to compete for food.

Damn technology, its great when it works properly, digital camera has packed in. :grr:
Mobile phone photo will have to do i suppose.
This is the only decent photo worth sharing at the mo, hope it helps to possitivly id

What a beauty and great shot. I still think it's a Hemiodontichthys acipenserinus - but I'm no expert.
