Hi guys,

A few months ago a friend closed down his tank and gave me all his fish, amongst them was a large plec and i'm not sure which type it is. I need to find out as it is getting very big now. I currently have a 110 litre tank but i'm about to upgrade to a trigon 190, i want to find out whether a trigon will be big enough in the long term and how big he can potentially get.....

thinks its a gibby will still grow 2 big for 190ltr .....will get 2 and pass the 18 inch mark :)

Ahh thats a shame i was hoping i would be able to keep him but looks like i'm gonna have to rehome him.

How long could i keep him in the 190l until he outgrows that roughly? i think he is about 5 yrs old now

how big is he now ? 5 years id say roughly should be at least 12-13 inches if this is the case then he is already 2 big for a 190 tank :(

gibby's can, under good conditions, grow 1"+ each month and will reach up near 2 ft, as you say it is already 5 years old and only 11", i'd guess that he has been stunted by being kept in a tank too small for too long as it is, he really needs to be homed in a 6ft tank asap so he can grow on properly, shame he is too big for you, he's a lovely looking beast

and remember any tank, you place it in, will need to be a minimum of 24 inches wide. as a general rule, your tank must be as wide as the longest fish you keep. and that ignores any volume considerations.

Yeh this wouldn't surprise me as i only got him in the summer and the tank he was in before was even smaller than mine!!

He will go into the trigon as soon as its ready so he will have a bit more room and then i suppose i will have to try and find him a nice big new home, but i will be sad to see him go
