Hi there

I have a couple of mollies who I think have ick.  They have some white spots and bulgy eyes.  I have been treating them with King British WS3 since 21st March but they are no better.  No other fish in the tank appear to be affected.  I have removed the carbon filter.  The fish are still enjoying their food but have been rubbing themselves against things, although this has been happening less.  Can anyone help please?

Do the white spots look like someone sprinkled salt on them, or are they more like blobs?

Have you tried raising the temp to around 88F? That worked for me, just ensure you have a good oxygen supply and obviously that the type of fish you own can withstand that temp.

I think that's a bit high. Usually around 82 is good for helping with ich, assuming that's what this is.

88 Sounds really high to me. Try 82-85. Also, adding salt helps, just ensure you have no scaleless fish in the tank such as Corys. (Not saying temperature and salt are a cure, but they do help)
Raising the temperature speeds up the life cycle of the bacteria (actually I think it's Protazoa but I could be wrong) But you have to ensure not to raise the temperature too much as that may adversely affect your fish, as not all can tolerate very warm temperatures.

I have used API super Ich Cure as well as one by Jungle. Both worked for me. Most Ick cures have Machalite green in them, which works well, but you must half the dose if working with scale less fish (Again like corys) Also, avoid ones that have Copper int hem if you have invertibrates like shrimp.

The bulgy eyes isn't a symptom of Ich, it is it's own symptom which is usually the result of a general infection do to improper water quality. Do the affected fish seem lethargic or are they off their food or more shy than they were prior to illness?
Check your water stats if you can, and increase the number or volume of water changes. The better the quality of the water the more quickly your fish will heal. If you want medication use a general bacterial cure, but I would say just try and get the ick to go away and keep the water clean and your pop-eye problem should clear up. (I wouldn't mix a general cure with a specific medication, one medication at a time or they may interact adversely and cause more harm than good.)

You are quite right.
