I found my ick meds, and it can be used along with UV. It is Garlic Xtreme, a food supplement that also is to be used if the fish has wounds or parasites. It is an all natural product, and is reef safe. I am currently treating a Sohal Tang the LFS sent home with me.

yeah i use zoe and garlic extreme(both from kent)all the time to keep the fishes immunne system up had a little prob with fin rot a while back but the vitamins got rid of it no meds just uv and vitamins.....as the uv with meds i have a hospital tank that i med inthat does not have a uv on it and all the meds i have say not to use with a uv so use at your own risk if it work for you than cool :D :)

Garlic isn't really a med, now, is it, ramjet? This is apropos the other thread. Sure, garlic is fine. Though for those with f/w lurking here, Melafix is a NO-GO with UV. Somehting in there veritably curdles (I learned the hard way, double-carbon and 75% water change over 12 hrs.).

Its a Med in my book, but sometimes I hold my book upside down. My book also has more pictures than words, I mostly just look at the pictures.

Taking a look at my other meds,
MelaFix, no UV.
PimaFix, no UV.
CopperSafe, UV is OK.
I just picked up the MelaFix and PimaFix. In the passed I was using CopperSafe and Garlic Xtreme. Thats why I had no problems, I am sure glad we started talking about this before I got the MelaFix and Pimafix.

RamJet: coppersafe is cheleated copper. It is NOT UV safe!!! The UV will break the bond in the ions and you will have free-floating copper. NOT good. In general copper meds are a bad idea anyway but that's another disucssion repeated many times around here and other boards.

But UV and coppersafe is not at all recommended. I don't know what is in PimaFix have never heard of it. But keep the UV away from anything with quinine as well, or anything with malachite green/formalin.

Ostrow, I am not arguing with you when I say this, I do belive what you are saying is true. However, I have checked the box, bottle, and papers inside the box. It says nothing about not using UV with it, and it is Chelated Copper Sulfate.
My UV is running on my reef right now and I am treating my fish in different tank, without UV. I think I must have gotten lucky in the past, and will not run the UV with copper because I dont want to take that risk. I will also let others know what you have said about it. Thanks for being here for me, RamJet (They need to put NO UV on the label.)

Ram you are absolutely right. The rule I use is unless it says "safe with UV" to assume it is not. OR to contact UV manufacturer and/or med manufacturer. I did this with Aquarisol, and actually got techies at ESV and Aquarisol to email each other copying me in the discussion, which was fascinating, to determine that it was safe to use that product. In the discussion was mention of the effects of UV on cheleated copper. Aquarisol is not a cheleate product.

But it would be nice if all products contained a line on whether UV safe or not.

Of course, many of the copper products make claims of safety which have been controverted by much experience.

No offense taken at all! Hopefully ohters in future will find this thread and the others useful!
