Yup, without a host to feed on it dies. As long as there is a fish for it to feed off it lives, If there are no fish around the ich dies.

If your running the filter pad in a tank with fish with ich, live ich is on the pad but if you have the pad where it is away from the fish like an empty tank then yes after 3-4 days the ich is dead.

Ok so if it is in the tank with ich it is still infected?

Are there fish in the tank with ich? if yes then it is infected, if you take the filter pad out and have it sit somewhere like in a cup of water for 3-4 days away from fish then the ich on the filter pad will die. Have you treated the fish in the tank for ich?

Yes I’m currently treating them. So I could take the filter pad out and let it sit in tank water for 3 days and the ich would be dead?

Yes. But if you take the pad out you will remove bacteria so could have an ammonia and/or nitrite spike.
If the tank has been treated the treatment will have got inside the filter and treated any ich in there as well.

Just leave the filter running. If you are using medication remove the carbon pad if you have one.
