OK my nitrite spike (new aquarium) is just starting to go down. but my little betta (named Orca II) just broke out with ich. :X I did some research, and started doing the following:
raised the temp in the tank to 85 F
put couple pinches of salt in the tank
did a 50% water change
turned the light off

within an hour after I did the water change the ich breakout got even worse. I've been feeding him just as I normally do (3-4 pellets a day as his main staple). should I not do that?
please help!

Add more salt, feed slightly less. Try to get Ich meds asap. Do daily 50% water changes and remember to add more salt after each water change. What are your water parameters? How long has your betta had ich?

Edit: the reason you should feed less is because he'll poop less, decreasing the amount of ammonia released into the water.

strange thing, ich. i noticed that my fish had it... all i did was raise the temp, change the water everyday, like 40-50%... within a week, the ich was gone. at least i hope it's gone :-(

Alright, I also got some tips on the live chat last night. I'll be doing water changes, adding more salt, and I'll get some meds tomorrow (monday). like I said I already have the temp up to 85. so now I'm just going to keep doing what i'm doing until it finally goes away. :/
thanks for everybodies help!
Hope my betta pulls through.

OK. I just did the tests and here are the results:
ammonia: 0 :D
nitrites: 0 :D

I don't have a test for nitrates but I'll have my LFS test everything tomorrow. The good news is that my tank is fullly cycled now but the bad news is my poor little Orca still has that stupid Ich. :(
thanks for everybodies help!

UPDATE: some of the ich is starting to fall of (hooray! :) ) there is still a lot on his fins and few on the rear of his body but it's starting to clear up.
I have one more question: how long should I do daily water changes after all the ich is off his body?

Thanks for your guy's (and gal's) help. I think he's pulling through thanks to you!
