I bought some clown loaches about 4wks ago......i researched and read they are prone to ich, so i had them in a seperate tank for a couple of wks.

There was no sign of diasease so i put them in my tank :)

They have settled in very well.....got on with the gang  been in there for about 1 and a half weeks, then i noticed 1 of them had white spots on them (Arrrrghh )

I thought i was getting off lightly :(

I have put tthe temp up to 82 when shall i add the med

Bump the temp up to 85 (slowly) and do not add any meds. You could even add a little bit of aquarium salt, if you desire.

Good luck!

no loaches are scaless do not add any salt to thier tank it will kill them I am almostr sure on this one but raising the temp. slowly to 85 degrees will do the trick it is the best way instead of all that medicine it isnt good on any fish it stresses them out to much.

Hi caz,

I'd be carefull of raising the temp - ok for the clown loaches - but are your other fish able to take these temps?

Also increase oxygenation - surface aggitation if you increase temp...

Salt is a touchy subject - I'll leave it :/

Personally in the past I've had great success with meds for ich....

:)

As you can see, everyone has different methods.

I have scaleless fish and they are ok with the salt, but I don't add nearly as much as the packaging recommends - only about 1 tablespoon per 15 gallons.

If you do go the salt route (again, personal preference) make sure to dissolve it before adding.

I prefer to not add meds b/c I try really hard to just be med free. Again, personal preference.

But we all agree to bump up the temp to 85. See how that works out.

i always heard clown loaches were suseptable to diseases quite easily... i also heard that lots of meds will kill them.. raising the temperature should help.. good luck !

Now i am confused

I have used interpet whitespot before and it has worked very well, but i'm worried about the loaches.....i have grown very fond of my loaches  and would be really upset if any died

and also, if u do a water change of 20% daily to get rid of the ich do u still need 2 add water conditioner??

whenever your doing water changes you have to make sure that the water has been dechlorinated or else you'll be dealing more issues rather than ICH..

Hey caz sorry to hear bout the ich. I just got done battling some myself. I have loaches and they did fine with the ich med. Just be sure to take out your carbon in your filter and don'tput it back in till 48 hours after you are done. I don't take chances with Ich. I have only had it once before and that was a stupid fish purchase on my part but I beat it with the ich med last time.

After the 48 hours after the final med I did a 30- 40 percent water change with conditioner of course and now all seems well.

Good Luck and don't worry it has happened to most of us a time or two. Also look into the possiblilty a UV filter. I know I am as it kills single cell organisms so it will take care of Ich as well as algae.
