ok so i got a new 55 gallon a while back, its almost done its cycle and i have some fish in my 22 G that have ick on them and i want to put them in the new tank, they are being treated at the moment and mostly all is gone except one fish still has the ich. can the fish have the on them even if they dont appear to have it? and also if i put a fish with ich in the new tank would it spread in the new tank? thanks

I would wait four weeks before adding them to the new tank, to make sure it has completely gone, you will have to be patient, I no it's hard but itch can come back as soon as it has disappeared.

You can put in all the fish that no longer have white spots on them without risk of recurring infection. What happens with white spots is that it has a cycle; when in the form of white spot you can't kill it without killing the fish because it is beneath the fish's skin. After that, though, it migrates into the gravel where it can be killed. Moving the fish to a new tank just after the white spots are gone is, in fact, a very good idea because that means they are not at risk from any ich still in the tank. If you leave them in the 22 gallon, there is more risk of recurring infection than if you don't. Just be sure that none of the fish you put in the 55 have any more white spots on them, or it will totally defeat the purpose! Your 22 g. will not have to be treated for ich after your fish are gone. Without any hosts, the ich will automatically die off anyway. So go for it!!!
