Here's my tank setup.

20 gallon long
Lots of tall silk plants.
PH 6.8
No ammonia or nitrite.

2 platties
2 dwarf gouramis
2 blue gouramis
1 redtail shark
3 corrie cats

The two platties developed a mild case of ich. I treated them with the capsules and followed the directions. The spots fell off the platties. I just did a 25% water change and put the carbon back in the filter. Now I just noticed that one of the blue gouramis has the spots. What is the best treatment on the market for ich?

Thanks

Keep treating the tank. Most treatments are effective but remeber the life cycle of ich can allow it to survive in statis for a few weeks without a host. Trying adding a little bit of salt after the treatment is over, and also raise the temp to say 85 or 86 during treatment.

Oh and it doesn't matter how you write it either way is find. Although the scientific name uses ich.

Just to emphasise this - you have to continue treating for at least a few days after the last of the spots are gone. The life cycle of ich is such that the spots themselves are not affected by treatments. It is only at a stage after they drop off and are no longer visible that the medications offered are effective.

The medicine I used recomended two doses lasting 48 hours each and then a 25 % water change after the final dose. Whould you recomend (3) 48 hour doses the next time around?

I'm curious as to what brand this is and whether I am familiar with it...

Do you have cories BTW? Some medications for ich irritate cories so I half the dose. This has resulted in my following some instructions quite differently - basicaly, with most white spot meds, I'd dose daily but only give half the normal dose and continue to do this for up to a week after the spots had completely gone. This has worked with my gouramies whenever I've used meds that say to dose every 48 hours.

The thing with most meds is that they are biodegradeable and that's why it says to dose every 48 hours (that's how long it lasts). I don't know how strong the med is as I've probably never tried it myself so I can't say whether a third dose is a good idea or not.

What you can deffinately do and what I suggest you do is to dose twice according to the instructions and then, when you would give a third dose, do a large (70% or so) water change and maybe even put in some carbon for a couple of hours. Then start the doses over again (remember to take the carbon out!). Once it's time for the third dose again, do the same (water change plus carbon for a few hours before dosing). Continue doing this so that you administer at least 2 doses after the spots have completely vanished.

Just FYI its pronounced ICK but spelled ICH, its greek so C's are hard, cyclops is acctually pronounces kyklopes
