I just saw this on my juvenile glassfish, and I'm pretty sure it's whitespot. Can you people confirm?

Sorry to write in this forum, but since I have low-end brackish, I'm a bit confused whether I can simply use the usual marine salts to fight it, or rather this "aquarium salt" recommended around (which I understand is just pure NaCl). The alternative, of course, would be one of the many meds available around. Any recommendation?

It is also my intention to increase the temperature from the standard 25 C up to 28 C within the next 6 hours or so: please advice if it's too quick.

I'm particularly worried because my little glassfishes are all kept in a nursery, to prevent unwanted attentions by my 3 archers... I understand the protozoan is already affecting the whole tank, but as soon as it will reach its 3rd life stage, looking for new hosts, it will be very easy to find a new one in that little nursery...

I don't what it is, but it's not whitespot.

Hmm… do think this more likely Lymphocystis, quite common on glassfish. By all means treat as per whitespot, using either regular or marine salt (if you already have them in brackish about 2-3 grammes/litre, then this isn't whitespot). Lymphocystis isn't treatable, but clears up in time (months rather than weeks, sadly).

Cheers, Neale

Much obliged Neale!

Can't get a better picture, unfortunately. The little guy is definitely on his own (as much as one can be in a little hatchery...), and he IS scratching his head on the walls, every now and then.

Water is close to SG 1.002 at 25 C, so well above 3 g/l.

Will keep a close eye.

Well, today morning the spot was almost gone. If it was ich, I would understand it's gone to stage 2, but lymphocystis??

Temperature up to 28 C by today, will keep it for about 10 days. Yesterday water change with SG 1.002 at 25 C. I'm planning next water change next saturday with fresh water: from what I read, it's the osmotic shock that affects the parasite the most.

Or am I overreacting??
