Hi,

I posted earlier about my few platties that had 1 or 2 white spots which I was treating with regular gravel cleans and salt.

Now I notice 1 of my guppies flashing & also a cherry barb with a white spot on his fin.

I want to try to get rid of this .... I have added salt and I have raised my temp from 26 (80 approx) to 27 (82 approx) and they all seem happy enough.

I have danios, cherry barbs, guppies and guppy fry. I want to save them if ich is going to take over and kill them.

My question is .. if this continues to get worse & I have to treat what is the difference between an ICHaway medication I can purchase tomorrow OR using Wardley Promethyasul (contains meth blue & green). Is one more effective than the other or less harmful & strong.

Also, I use a product called Easy life (filter media) which says it gets rid of all medications etc from you water and makes it clear. It works really well and I added it again to my water tonight as it destresses the fish. Here is the website if anyone needs further info to see if I add medication after it will just be taken out by the easy life. www.easylife.nl

Really need help soon guys and appreciate it.

Thanks
Desley

You can get rid of ich without adding meds. All you have to do is raise the water temp to 85 degrees for a week or so this will kill off the parasite it cannot survive this higher water temp. and do daily water changes small ones at that.

Hi,

THANK you for your help. It's good news because I really didn't want to use meds at all because the fish are all happy and eating, swimming etc. Touch wood. Its just I can see the little white spots on a few of the fish.

An occassional flash on the gravel also.

When you say small water changes .. would it be better to gravel clean the water changes or from the top is just as good ? I heard gravel cleans were better because it sucks up the cysts or whatever they are they drop off.

Also can my danios & cherry barbs take that high a temp. My book says platties & guppies can take higher temps but not sure on danios & cherry barbs.

I was on 26 (79 F) and raised it last night to 27 (80.6) and will now put it to 28 (82.4).

Thanks again
Desley
