Hey. I would like to start breeding bettas. I have read a few articles about breeding them and it sounds really cool. I do have a couple questions though. I have heard that they can be in bowls when they spawn, is this true, if not what size tank will do? Also I heard that when the fry are born they need to be seperated into there own container so they wont fight and kill eachother, is this true? OR would I be able to but them in a net breeder or could I put them in a larger tank? Any advice will help.

I have never breed bettas before, and haven't read a lot about breeding bettas, but I do know a few things.
It wouldn't be reccomded to spawn bettas in a bowl for several reasens. The female will not have enough room to hide and get away from the male. The fry would be growing up for the first few weeks (or months?) in this bowl, and it woud be extremely hard (I would say impossible) to keep the water clean. Also, I would think it would stunt their growth. I can't see 200+ betta fry fitting in bowl, either. It would be hard to filter and heat the bowl.
Use a 5 to 10 gallon tank instead. I'm sure you have read articles on how to set up the spawing tank, so I won't go into that.

When the fry are born, you do not need to seperate them. Seperate them when you notice a lot of agression and tail-nipping.

You would keep the fry in the 5-10 gallon tank for so many days (not too sure how long) and then when they are big enough, seperate the males and by then you would probably want to place the females into a larger grow-out tank (40+ gallons I think it was)

If you have the money as well. Fry eat a lot and their food can be expensive depending on what you use. Plus, they do need live food through most of their first two months. I think that's why I lost so many of mine, many differant people said that young fry would accept food that wasn't living, mine never did until just now (at two months old).
