I've been looking for a while now to find a betta with a halfmoon or a crown tail...
or at least a special colour.
but found nothing :(
I so want to try breeding these interesting and beatiful fish. I've done lots and lots of research...
but finding nice fish is the problem, I live in Belgium (that's in Europe :) )
So today I bought a veiltail, it's a very nice one, but I guess everyone here is right if they say I won't get rid of the little ones if they succeed in breeding...

I guess there's no one on this forum who lives close enough to me to send me some kind of special betta?
(I have no experience in buying fish on the net, since all the companies and such are located in the usa or asia...)

Go to www.aquabid.com The sellers there ship to a variety of Countries, just read down towards the bottom of the auction listings. You can also ask the sellers which countries they ship too. Good luck!

I don't find anyone shipping to europe...
and I guess, if they would, it would cost a bit too much for me :(
would it be totally wrong to try breeding with a veiltail?

There's nothing wrong with breeding veils, it's just that they are usually are hard to sell because there is little demand for them. You'll probably want to set up a deal with your lfs before you breed them (and after you've done all the research) in case you end up with a gazillion fry. See if they will take them off your hands if the spawn is successful.

I know, there are tons of fish stores round about where I live. The largest one I like the best is BIG ALS! Barrie, Ontario. They carry alright Bettas, now they are starting to carry double tail bettas.

The bettas I always see are vieltails, for my birthday last year I was given my first betta by my brother. Squishy, came from walmart, and I found out about a month after that he is a half moon .

You never know when Wal-Mart will try to mess with our heads and put a rare breed of betta into their tiny... suffocating... totally inhumane cups...

That's actually the main reason why I couldn't resist buying this veiltail...
He was in such a tiny cup...
Otherwise, this lfs is great! enormous choice, healthy fish, ...
I guess they just have a different idea as to how a betta should be treated.
They also told me I can keep it at room temperature, but I guess they like warmer temps better, so he has his own 10g, and he's not complaining :)

The following breeders on Aquabid ship to Germany:

You might have to pay a little more for shipping, but if you could buy at least 2 good breeding stocks pairs...you would more then make up for it if you could start selling them.

Or, I found these breeder's/clubs in Europe:

European Halfmoon Betta Breeders Club - Germany
Marion Schultheiss

Swiss Betta Club - Switzerland
Claire Pavia

And these are European Fish Forums (I have no clue what kind, as I cannot read German lol...but from teh pictures it looks like there are alot of Betta fans)

I dunno how many of them work or if they are up-to-date (as I did not search thru them only found the links), but hopefully you will find what you are looking for in at least 1 of them  .

Good Luck.

;) No problems.

Everyone here has been more then helpful to me..so I though I might give some back where ever I could.

If none of those pan out for you, I got those off of the first page I searched on Google.

If you need more links try going to GOOGLE and typing in "European Betta Clubs" .

Like I said I only pulled links from the first page, there were about 10 pages to look through , if I'm not mistaken. But even though I am half German I can't read German :*) lol and the more I looked the more I ran into that lol.

Good Luck though, hope you find what you are after.

indeed lots of german links, but I'm not german either...
not that the language would be a problem, but it's the distance...
apparently it's kinda difficult to ship fish around here
I have asked for info about the bettatrills breeder on aquabid...
they send to belgium, but I guess it will be well out of my budget
buy hey, you never know they want to get rid of their fish so much, that they send it to me for free :p (dreams are nice, aren't they) :)

lol yes they are.

Just keep in mind it most always cost alot more to ship the fish then the actual fish cost you lol...I have to pay $41.20 to ship from Thailand to me. That's $5 from Thailand to the trans-shipper and $36.20 from CA to AL.

If you are wanting to breed, maybe you can find out how much shipping is, then save up some $$ for 3 sets of nice breeders..and have them shipped all at once. You generally can get up to 6 fish included into one shipment..to help save on shipping cost..and to make it seem more worth your while. Because having 1 fish for $41.20 shipped is alot different then 6 fish shipped for $41.20 lol (that works it down to only like $7 for each fish I have shipped if I got 6 fish). (the $41.20 is only an example..because I don't know how much it would be to ship to you, but I'm sure you get what I'm saying though lol)

again thanx for the tips
I think europe in general is about 50-60$ (that's what I've found so far)
I guess I will start by trying to breed a veiltail pair first. I need to try it before I can spend lots of money on this. I guess I will be able to get rid of the fry, cause bettas are quite new around here...

Then if I'm still as excited about them as I am now, I will try to think of a nice breeding setup, maybe even some kind of drip system (I've read something about this somewhere, and it looks so cool) :)

and of course the big leap into the unknown: ordering fish from the other side of the world :p
