I want to try breeding

I already have 2 mollies in my tank, pretty sure they are both males.(red wag mollies?) I think they are very attractive and would like to try breeding them. My aquarium store sells mainly young fish. How do you tell males/females apart at this age? Sould I just buy a few and hope that I got some of each?

Oops! Those are red wag platies, not mollies.

The male platy has what is called a gonopodium where the anal fin of the female is. It is longer and thinner than the females fin and makes them easily distinguishable. Look at different pictures of platys and you will see the difference. Keep the ratio of 1 male to two females, for example I have four females and 2 males currently. The males are always chasing the females around so it won't take long before they breed.
