Hello everyone, as the topic states I want to breed shrimps ,starting with red cherry shrimps and then moving onto crystal red shrimps,

I have been doing a lot of research and what not on how to breed and care for them but my question is

Is it worth it??

Taking care and breeding them just to sell them for X ammount??

How would I sell them?
For how much?
And to who would I sell them to?

Any info would b great and thanks in advance for any help :)

Well in about 2-3 weeks I would buy some off you :D assuming you can post..

Depends how old they are as well..

D.

Selling cherries just pays the costs of fish supplies normally.

You can sell them locally or online. Around where I am $10 a dozen is what you pay. At local auctions though they can go way cheap. Online seems a little more expensive. You have to work in the cost of shipping and the cost of the shipping supplies(heat packs if you use them).

lol wow thanks man, well ill tell u this, who ever i sell to firt will get a nice deal lol if i even start

thats y i wana know if its hard, easy, worth not worth lol

do you think its worth it, and also what if kept gpoing with

like for example i start off with cherrys

then move on to crystal

and other breeds, will ppl pay more for these other shrimps

so at the end could you make a profit off these guys ?

sorry about the double spaces texting from my phone (the G1 :) ) and is acting up

thanks again

Well I would make sure you have cherries down pat before you look at Crystal Reds. You might be able to make some decent money of Crystals, depending on quality. But they are a lot harder than cherries and do not breed as well. I would get some if I wasn't a broke collage student.

I still don't believe in making a profit off them, unless you are able to sell lots of shrimp. And if your breeding its best to keep the shrimp is species only tanks. Which means more expense if you need another tank. I've seen some people with crystal reds and tons of other shrimps. I still don't think they make a profit of them compared to how much they put into the hobby.

For example I've gotten more cash from selling cherries than I have from buying them. But if you compare the profit I make on them to how much money I spend on other fish, supplies, and ect. That profit does not cover much.

I would just get some practice keeping them first. Its not quite as simple as getting some and after a few weeks you suddenly have a ton to sell. The harder to get varieties can be a nice little earner but they are harder to keep and breed.

I would say by the time you pay for the shrimp, transport them to you, wait for them to breed...you will not make any profit from them. And as T says if you go for the more exotic species...they might not survive anyway just from the stress of being moved from place to place.

You will be able to sell them (depending on quality of the shrimp and what types) and make some money but not enough to justify the electric costs etc if they survive.

However that depends on how many you buy in the first place and how many you sell.

For example I bought 11 ghost shrimps and it has taken about 5 months to actually get to the point of having a healthy colony and that is not even being able to sell some.

wow thanks for the advice everyone, appreciate it...

i have an already cycled and everything 10g tank, and i have another 20g tank but its not being used (due to a bad experience with fishs, lost them all :( )

how many could i fit into the current 10g vs. the 20g tank??

and also to start it up (besides buying the shirmps) would i need, food for the majority and any other expensives

thanks so much for the current advice and help ppl :)

I keep all of my shrimp in with my tropical fish (maybe this is why it took so long for my ghosties colony to grow)

Shrimps as a whole do not take up much of your tank space and bio load.

One of the others here might be able to help with the numbers part.

Are you going to be keeping them with fish?

How mature is you 10 gallon tank?

thanks for the info, my 10g tank is about id say 9 or 10 months cycled,

i was thinking maybe i could host about 50-70 of them, (well that sounds like alot)

but i wana see the floor crawling with these little guys lol
