hi i have had my pond for 2 years and my fish for about 6 months as the others had a problem with a cat so i netted the pond. ive had 4 sasara comets and 4 golden orfe in my pond for about 6 months and i would like them to spawn. does any 1 have any suggestions. also can any tell me how u identify males from females.

I think you will have them spawning next year if you havent seen any yet. How big is the pond? The males will be slimmer and the poor females fatter.

ok thanks. its about 500- 700 litres. i think. im still not sure about the identification. if i send u pics of em can u identify em for me. please. cheers

We can take a look for you but with that many fish you might not have enough room for any young to survive for long. Has the pond got plenty of plant cover and a fairly large shallow area?

actually i think ive identified the male. yes my pond has plenty of shallow area and a deep end. id say nearly half my pond if covered my plants.

I think some of the pond people will be able to help you more. :)

add a few details about the pond ,planting ,pump filter etc size depth wise

a lot of people keep fish for years with no offspring

ive had fish for 25 years or so and they have only spawned 4 times that im aware of

quite often you never know its happend until the fry start to appear

my pond has a hoselock pump and hoselock ecopower 2500. i have to differnet water lillies and 3 differnet types of grasses. i also have i yellow flowred plant which im un sure of the name. my pond 110cm deep. 100 wide and 230 long

do u think its worth investing in a spawning mop. or some thing like that
